Boeing's 787 Dreamliner made it's first landing at Sydney's Kingsford-Smith Airport this morning at around 1100 AEST. It flew from New Zealand and was brought her by QANTAS as part of a whistle stop tour of the new generation airliner. N787BA landed on Runway 34L and was then towed to a QANTAS hanger for a media conference and for selected QANTAS personnel and Platinum Frequent Flyers to tour.
N787BA will be departing YSSY/SYD at around 0830 AEST on 16/11/2011 and flying to YMML/MEL.
QANTAS will purchase a number of Boeing B787-9s for it's international fleet and B787-8s for the domestic fleet, replacing the Airbus A330s. QANTAS subsidiary, JetStar will be receiving B787-8s in 2013 for it's international fleet and will be the first airline in Australasia and the first low cost airline in the world to operate the Dreamliner. QANTAS plan on using only A380s and B787s in their international fleet once the youngest B747s are retired from service.
