Hi Steve, Lee is correct on the settings. I usually set the aperture and let the camera take care of the speed. The clarity partly comes from being up close and shooting with my short lens (18-70mm). It was 41 degrees (5 days of it so far..!!) so I was out on the boat. Went in and around Garden Island, Gage Roads and the inner harbour.

I've never really been into ships (not a good sailor), but the photos on this site, especially of this quality, could change my mind! Problem is, I live about as far from the sea as it is possible to get in Scotland! Off to Lanzarote soon. Note to self, go to the ports!

Thanks for the comments Tony, much appreciated. Ships are good, they move slowly or sit still while you set up the shot. I think there is a cargo ship called "Temple Hall" in Lanzarote that won't be moving very far or fast any time soon...   ;o)

I do planes too when it is cooler but often they don't give second chances...

Thanks for the tip, Hans. I'll try and get the Temple Hall. I know what you mean about planes though. I've missed a few good shots in my time by cutting bits of the plane off!
