Cowes Week 2011 Live Yacht and Ship Tracking

Posted on August 1, 2011 at 8:30 0 Comments

This year like those gone before there is a very well known event locally that goes on called Cowes Week.  It is an event where the Isle Of Wight gets a great selection of racing going on in the Solent and around the island itself.  And for those that don’t race the atmosphere is great with the Red Arrows and Fireworks featuring towards the end of the week!

Anyway, this year it starts on Saturday and we are always asked by our users if we…

Follow up to alerts - common issues

Posted on July 29, 2011 at 14:50 0 Comments

Well in summary thank you for all the feedback but you seem to be enjoying them!

A couple of questions have cropped up so I though it would be best to summarise some of the common mistakes and how not to set up alerts.  If you wanted to see how to set up alerts then see my last blog post which gave some pointers on it.

A lot of people have asked about squawk codes…

Plane Finder new icons!

Posted on July 27, 2011 at 8:40 0 Comments

Also new to version 2.60 released yesterday and largely overshadowed by the alerts feature was the addition of new plane models to the apps!

As you can see from the sample below they are very distinct  and hopefully it will help you identify those aircraft without having to drill down into it.  As usual this is part of the free upgrade to the latest version and early feedback so far has been great!

We have also added these icons in Yellow and Black as these…

Plane Finder now with alerts!

Posted on July 26, 2011 at 8:30 8 Comments

We have been very busy at pinkfroot testing our alerts feature for our iOS apps and we are pleased to say that it has been released today!

Here is a quick rundown so that you can see what it looks like and how to configure it to get some cool alerts!  We have been playing around with it for a few weeks now and have noticed some really nice things happening!  This is a rundown on the iPhone version but the screens are almost identical in the iPad…

No worries Lee, like Harrison - Santa gave me a new Canon EOS, so more shots are coming! I am focusing on aircraft that are currently flying, so will update those planes in the older liveries :)

Looking fwd to the updated Planefinder app ... woo hoo!

You're right about that... about 4 hours from home! However, might drive up and stay overnight :) Gatwick is a good one for me, even though it must be the most spotter unfriendly airport in the UK!

Thanks I will get hold of the MMSI Numbers.

In lieu of MMSI can I use IMO Number?
At 6:40 on June 3, 2011, Nick Haslam said…
The IMO Number is transmitted by AIS, it forms part of the Static Data transmitted every 6 minutes. I shall chase up the missing MMSI Numbers though.

Luckily my local airport has a cafe and a balcony basically over where the light/private aircraft park. The runway is also literally just meters away. Lovely place for taking pics of aircraft. I made a whole website just to get some good pics up. If you want to see it visit- theworldofaviation.weebly.com and submit some pics to us. There are some pretty good photographers here. We need a bit of a variety!!!
