Big Aeroplane coming

For the real die hard spotters, there is an Antonov AN-124 heading toward Heathrow. This is coming to collect a spare engine and associated bits for the BA A380 stranded in Miami after an engine connected with an air bridge at MIA. Currently over Russia and heading in the general direction of Minsk, the plane, RA-82044, is scheduled to arrive at LHR as flight VDA1901 tomorrow evening at 18:05. How considerate! Arriving in the dark!

British Moon Shot

On New Year's Eve, British Airways undertook an attempt to reach the moon with a B787-9, G-ZBKB.

Unfortunately it didn't all go to plan and the attempt to get to the moon was abandoned with the aircraft flying on to Abu Dhabi instead.

One to watch

I just watched Lufthansa 415, Frankfurt to Cancun, make a U turn while passing over London.

The plane then headed toward Calais and I assumed it was returning to Frankfurt. Wrong! Over the Straits of Dover, it made yet another U turn and appeared to be heading toward London to rejoin its original track.

Wrong again! It has now made a large circle over Sussex & Kent and is once again over the Channel.

It isn't squawking any emergency code and has maintained altitude…

New antenna location in Kissimmee Florida

It has taken a while but I finally got around to moving the antenna outside. The mast is 10' of 1" electrical conduit and the mount is made from angle iron stock. It has increased the number of hits by 5 times and the range to over 250 miles for high flying aircraft. I can now see north to southern Georgia and south to Boca Raton/Naples and out to the western side of the Bahamas. I also converted from a PC and an SBS to Raspberry Pi which should save on my electricity bill.…
