Wave Death Cruise Ship Was 'Badly Maintained

The wife of a man who died when a freak wave crashed into a cruise ship has claimed that the vessel was "improperly maintained".

Helen Swinstead said she and her husband James, 85, were sitting by a window on the Marco Polo when the water poured in.

The wave is understood to have hit the ship during the severe storm that hit Britain on Friday, injuring a number of the 735 passengers, who were mainly British.

Castaway update........ Jose Salvador Alvarenga Given Hero's Welcome

A castaway who says he spent 16 months adrift in the Pacific has returned home - but was too emotional to speak to well-wishers.

Jose Salvador Alvarenga muttered a few inaudible words as he was pushed through El Salvador's main airport in a wheelchair.

Dozens of news cameras were there to greet the 37-year-old - two weeks after he washed ashore in the Marshall Islands.

The clean-shaven castaway was helped by Foreign Minister Jaime Miranda.

Dramatic Rescue As Cargo Ship Luno Splits In Two

The crew of a Spanish cargo ship have been airlifted to safety after it slammed into a jetty and split in two.

The hold of the 100-metre-long ship, the Luno, was empty when the accident happened along the coast of the southwestern French town of Anglet.

The ship had been heading to a nearby port to load up with cargo when its engine broke down and the rough waves carried it into the jetty.

Castaway Washes Up After '16 Months Adrift'

A castaway has washed up in the remote Marshall Islands claiming he drifted at sea for more than a year - travelling 8,000 miles from where he set sail.

The Mexican man, who identified himself as Jose Ivan, is said to be recovering on Ebon Atoll after the ordeal, surviving by eating turtles, birds and fish and drinking turtle blood when there was no rain.

He had no fishing equipment on the boat, suggesting the man caught food with his bare hands.
