Ship Carrying 900 Migrants Abandoned At Sea

Italy's coastguard said they narrowly averted a "massacre" after a cargo ship was abandoned at sea with more than 900 Syrian refugees on board.

Officers said the Blue Sky M's engines had been locked and its steering set on a course which would have seen it smash ashore in Italy's Puglia region.

Two helicopters were scrambled overnight and six coastguard officers boarded the ship and managed to bring it under control just five miles from the rocky coastline.

"It was a… Continue

This aircraft [flight VS43] departed Gatwick EGKK Airport at 11:44 Monday 29th December 2014 bound for Las Vegas but had to return to EGKK  with a 'technical problem' with one of its main landing gear. Fire Breaks Out On Italian Ferry Off Greece

The mother of a British man trapped with hundreds of people on the top deck of a burning ship in the Adriatic Sea has told of her fears.

Dotty Channing-Williams said she was speaking to her show jumper son Nicholas, who was one of two Britons aboard the Norman Atlantic with his fiancee Regina Theofilli, when the phone call cut off.

The ship caught fire just after 6am local time about 35 miles north of Corfu, close to the Albanian city of Vlora, while it was travelling from… Continue

Etihad A380 Good news/Bad news

The good news:

Tomorrow, December 27th, will see the inauguration of Etihad's A380 maiden flight from Abu Dhabi to London. The aircraft, A6-APA, will begin the daily flight from Abu Dhabi on flight EY11. Hurrah!

The bad news:

Sadly, flight EY11 arrives at Heathrow at 06:35. Boo!

To make matters worse, the return flight, EY12, is due to depart at 09:15. Daylight, yes. But on runway 27R so not so clever for photographing.

Can't win them all, I suppose!

Yet another spot of bother over Hampshire

A few minutes ago, I heard Avianca N968AV pass overhead near my house.

When I looked at Planefinder a few minutes later, I was surprised to see it had not climbed above 8,000ft and had done a U turn over Fawley.

Currently doing circuits over Southampton, although not squawking an emergency.

Spot of bother?

Is this an aircraft with some problems?

United flight UA28, N59053, is making race track shpeas over the Isle of Wight just now.

It has made something like 8 or 9 circuits so far, below 12,000ft. Not squawking an emergency although it would look as if he is dumping fuel, preparing for a return to LHR.
