Hoegh Osaka was scheduled for an attempted re-floating today but late last night this was postponed as they have discovered more water than they had thought within the ship.

That meant they missed a weather window and the weather is forecast to gradually deteriorate over the coming week.

Now, in the last few hours, it has been discovered that the ship is drifting slowly to the south west.

Now, there are extra tugs coming on station. Yesterday, there was a couple of Solent Towage's tugs standing by the vessel. Now (15:00) I see Svitzer Surrey has just come hot-foot from the town and Svitzer Sarah is passing Calshot to join her. Also, SD Solent Racer has arrived from Portsmouth. Added to all that lot, I can see Wilventure on scene too.

The US sailors on board the vehicle carrier Courage must be getting a surprise as they pass the wreck. This ship is slowing down as it approaches the wreck so they can get some good views.

I found it interesting that, although Svitzer have been appointed as salvors, none of their tugs have been involved until this afternoon.

My goodness! A second Southampton Patrol launch is now en route, and the local Search & Rescue helicopter is in the area too.

Good grief! The ship has refloated itself and begun to swing on the bank. Tugs have been trying to push the stern back around.

Great short clip here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-30717556

Things have moved on. It appears the ship has floated sufficiently enough to allow a collection of tugs and launches to tow her off the bank and they are heading to Stokes Bay.

And now the ship is at Alpha Anchorage, being held in position by tugs. Tugs will stand by providing illumination throughout the night.

Thanks Kelvin,

I made a snap decision around the time of your post and news that she was headed for Southampton. Got to Calshot to find her headed the other way. Took this shaky long exposure shot and came home again! She is near me now and I'll try to get some shots first thing.
