The 95-year-old vessel ran aground on to Rocks off Kinsale in July 2013 during a photocall for the Irish Sailing Association prompting dramatic scenes as 30 people were rescued from rough seas. The vessel has been resting on the rocks for 2 months.
The training ship had lost power and was apparently driven on to rocks by a strong southerly wind at the western entrance to Kinsale Harbour. The grounded vessel quickly took on water. Heav lifting equipment was brought in and she was lifted off the rocks onto a barge and brought back to Kinsale. It was later decided by the insurers that she was beyond repair and she was scrapped. sad ending.
