The Britain used to be a lightship, which is a ship that acts as a lighthouse.

A large light would have been mounted on one of its masts when it was in use, and a heavy anchor would have kept it stationary in its position.

Lightships commonly use "mushroom anchors", which are named after their shape and weigh up to four tons.

Since the 1970s, the majority of lightships in the UK have been decommissioned and replaced with light floats and Lanby buoys, which are significantly cheaper to run.

Cllr Ioan Thomas, who is a chairman of the Caernarfon Harbour Trust, said: "The vessel is the historic motor yacht Britain which is owned and operated by the Viscount Shipping Line.

"The vessel, which is 30 metres long, requires some internal work and it is likely that work will be carried out during the winter months whilst alongside Cei Llechi."
