The photo with the smoke was captured at exactly the moment the engines went bang! While passing the inbound Navion Britannia, the pilot rang for more speed and, in his words, "there was a bang and everything went dark". The ship was in a tricky position, in a narrow passing place, with no power and no steerage.Tugs were called from Southampton and reached the ship just in time to stop her going aground hear the Hound buoy.
