HMSML Gleaner (H86), which entered service on 5th December 1983, is the smallest commissioned vessel in the Royal Navy and has a complement of two officers and six ratings.
She is based in Devonport, Plymouth and was originally designed to conduct inshore surveys along the south coast of England. Gleaner has since spent time surveying the entire coastline of Great Britain and has visited various ports in Europe.
This advanced survey vessel uses multibeam and sidescan sonar to collect bathymetry and seabed texture data to compile an accurate and detailed picture of the seabed.
