I never got an explanation for the tug shadowing the bulker with a slack line between them. I'm just guessing that there might have been suspected problems with the steering gear on the ship, but I really don't know.

  • Maybe so high out of the water rudder having little effect so ready incase?
    • That level of freeboard is pretty typical here, so I don't think that that's the case. I have a couple of local sources here that still haven't chimed in. I've been told before that a tug is required to be in tension and astern of a ship at anchor if there's a problem with the steering gear, and I've seen that condition last for days. Given that, I can only guess that this bulker has a potential problem developing, and the tug is there to keep her from running aground if the rudder stops responding.
