      Hi Howard! Yes, the majority of my photos of ships entering or departing San Francisco Bay are taken from a distance of 3-5 miles, so I use a zoom lens and do the best I can. My photos are almost always of ships for which the site has no existing photos, so my philosophy is "Better to have a lousy photo than to have no photo at all."

      Great thoughts Mark but others are always good to see. It is a great distance especially when hot and hazy
