SS Richard Montgomery

Off Sheerness - Rivers Thames / Medway 24/9/23

  The SS Richard Montgomery was a US Liberty Ship of 7146 gross tons.The wreck remains on the sandbank where she sank in 1944 lying close to the Medway Approach Channel and her masts are clearly visible above the water at all states of the tide. There are still approximately 1,400 tons of explosives contained within the forward holds. Now in a state of extreme danger.

    Hope you took that with a decent zoom Howard! Often in the news now about the condition of the explosive cargo.

    Great Howard , Read about this , they said it had deteirated faster than they thought !!!! It's only been there 79 years . Why did they not do something in 1950 when it would have been a bit safer to do so ?????? What mad world live in.
