USCGC GEORGE COBB (WLM 564)

U.S. Coast Guard Cutter GEORGE COBB is the fourteenth and final “Keeper” Class coastal buoy tender built by Marinette Marine Corporation in Marinette, Wisconsin. Carrying on the proud tradition of the men and women of the Light House Service for which they are named, the Keeper Class cutters were built using the most modern shipbuilding techniques, and incorporate the latest in technology to carry out Coast Guard missions.

Launched on December 18, 1999, accepted by the Coast Guard on June 22, 2000, and formally commissioned on October 27, 2000, GEORGE COBB is named for the famed lighthouse keeper and Silver Lifesaving Medal recipient.

Homeported in San Pedro, CA with a crew compliment of 22 enlisted and 2 officers, GEORGE COBB is responsible for 178 floating aids to navigation along the California coast, including the major ports of San Francisco, Los Angeles and Long Beach, and San Diego.
