Constructed in 1942 (c/n 6021) flown by 46 & 21 Troop Carrier Squadron, 5th Air Force and named 'Shanghai Lil'. Sold to the Department of Civil Aviation in 1944 entering the Australian Aircraft Register as VH-AES and operated by Australian National Airways as a freighter. re-configured for passenger service and tranferred to Trans Australia Airlines in 1946. AES was cancelled from the Australian Aircraft Register in 1974 and then in 1979 was suspended 5 metres above the ground in front of Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport Passenger Terminal and remained as a static display until mid 1987.
Re-entered onto the Australian Aircraft Register as VH-AES on September 6, 1988 and finally returned to flying status September 9, 1988.
